Learning more from our new members

Last Week we had excellent addresses by two new members, Alberto and Chris.Alberto and Chris April 2014

Alberto TuasonAlberto Tuason spoke on his work – ICT and Gelato; his hobbies – badminton, basketball, guitar and photography; and his favourite family – Rose and 3 daughters. We learned a lot about gelato and sorbet, manufactured by Alberto in Tawa and available in New World stores. He seemed pretty happy with his move from the Philippines to NZ 20 years ago. Call in next door to 15 Sports Bar & Cafe any afternoon for a gelato legal high.

Chris Black Apr 2014Chris Black is a self-employed builder in Tawa and has trained many apprentices and mentored many Tawa College students. Chris joked that his wife, Karen and their son and daughter are important ‘hobbies’, but they are run close by football where Chris received a most improved trophy at the mature age of 50, and he still makes time to attend to his comprehensive collection of Bruce Springsteen albums. Large building firms and their supplier discounts, together with tough licensing laws and risks have made it harder for the sole builder.

We welcome both Alberto and Chris as two high quality new Members. Looking forward to new member, Gary’s update at a later date.

Your help needed - Red Shield Appeal

Major Keith Wray, Salvation Army and Tawa Rotarian, has asked members to help with the Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield street appeal on Saturday 3 May at Tawa New World. The Salvation Army's annual Red Shield street appeal runs from Monday 28 April to Sunday 4 May. They desperately need help with collectors.

Thank you to the following volunteers for the Tawa collection. Both collection sites are at the mall / New World, one on the Oxford St. side and the other on Main Road. As noted, if you are unable to collect on the morning, please find your own replacement.
