Legal learnings from Corrections
We enjoyed a presentation from Richard Niven, Senior Solicitor at the Department of Corrections.
Richard described the various legal challenges faced by Corrections, in particular from prisoners, and provided a number of interesting and amusing examples.
Richard outlined the care and support services provided by Corrections, especially for early release prisoners, with the focus of integrating them back into both work and the community.
He advised that the mission of the Department of Corrections was to reduce re-offending and eventually do themselves out of a job!
Ngaire Best shared with fellow Rotarians the professional and personal changes she has been through recently. After 15 years in local government she stepped down as a Wellington City Councillor and is now a consultant with Niche Recruitment Specialists specialising in HR and legal recruitment. Ngaire found that this role is a good match for her previous experience as a legal executive, as a Councillor, and as a real estate agent, along with her degree in business, majoring in human resources and marketing. Ngaire and Andrew are now building a new home in Kaiwharawhara.
