Power with Solar LED
Last week we had an interesting address by Douglas Herbert on energy efficiency and solar generation. With assistance from father Richard, Douglas has set up Greenco Solutions in Tawa, specialising in Solar PV, LED lighting and hot water heat pumps. He has recently returned from 2 years in Melbourne installing Solar Photo Voltaic panels, and said that the economics, reliability and savings have shown remarkable improvements in the last few years.
LED (light emitting diode) bulbs will last 10 to 30 years and are now fully safe and reliable, with v good brightness and colour options. They are available from Bunnings for $15 – 30 and people often gradually buy bulbs as the old ones need replacing. The good ones such as Philips have effective dimmers (even though our own Philips is never dim). You can recover the cost with about a year’s savings.
Contact Douglas and he will carry out an energy audit for you and you could be surprised at the savings you could make.
We welcomed back as a Member, Ken Pearson. Ken of course was a member here until two years ago when he took a break to concentrate on work matters. Ken is married to Robyn and he is ICT Manager at Centreport Wellington. He is very welcome back to our club.
New World Tawa Raffle
Congratulations to New World Tawa raffle winner, Tony Heyward.
Help transfer books this Sunday
The Tawa Rotary Book Fair is almost upon us! The first big job is packing and loading Johnsonville’s surplus books plus trays and trestles and transporting them all from the Johnsonville Community Centre to our venue at Tawa New World. As much help as we can get will be most appreciated.
We need a crew for packing and loading at Johnsonville from about 2.00pm on Sunday 25 May. Brian Frampton is again supplying his truck for the job, Chris Black has offered his van and we may also have the New World van. Any trailers will also be appreciated.
Let’s hope we can get a good team together – the more that come, the quicker we’ll finish.
Our best wishes are extended to Johnsonville Rotary for a successful book fair at Johnsonville community centre this weekend.
