A busy week
This week we’ve had the combined Institute/District Conference – congratulations to conference chair and our president, Pat Waite for a successful event that has brought RI International president elect and Rotary international representation to our shores, and our Australian colleagues in Rotary. Excellent key speakers, $11000+ raised for Polio at the dinner, and a challenge by our RI president elect to effect positive change. Our Tawa team looked pretty swish walking to the TSB Arena dinner in their black and white gear. We'll have to wait to see some photos from the week.
Saturday - we’ve had Tawa Rotarians helping at the Tawa Lions Christmas Parade.
Fundraising for Diabetes NZ
Can you spend some time to help Gaylene at Tawa New World on Saturday 13 December – at a time between 9 am and 4pm? She will be raising funds for Diabetes NZ/Rotary with selling pedometers. The pedometers are good stocking fillers for Christmas.
Gaylene Lines and Marion Patchett did a great job at the Combined Institute/District Conference weekend with pedometer sales totalling $732. Sold at either $20 for two or $12 each.
If you can help – please contact Gaylene.
A special notice to acknowledge our former Tawa Rotarian, Gerald Aburn, who died at Summerset Hospital on 4 December. In lieu of flowers, donation to ‘Enliven’ (Presbyterian Support Services) would be appreciated. A funeral service for Gerald will be held at the Kapiti Uniting Church, cnr Raumati & Weka Road, Raumati Beach on Monday 8 December 2014 at 11.00am, to be followed by private cremation. Messages to “The Aburn Family” PO Box 119, Paraparaumu 5254.
Gerald joined our Club in 1974 and was a Director of Vocational Committee in 1975/76 and 1980/81 and of International Committee in 1976/77. He was President in 1984/85.
Gerald was the Author of the Rotary Club of Tawa History “ the first 21 Years, 1969-1991” published in 1993. This is the only definitive history of our club. His wife Nancy was usually present at our Christmas, Changeover and DG Visit functions as well as other partner accompanied events. She was a senior teacher at Tawa College for over 40 years.
Rest in peace Gerald.
Thanks to Malcolm Andrews and Club Services for co-ordinating the Christmas dinner arrangements for Saturday 13 December. Separate email messages have been sent to members advising on the pot luck menu, venue for hosts and timings.
