Learning from Linden School Principal
We had an address from Melanie Deans, Principal of Linden School.
While the school now has only 100 pupils (compared to earlier days of Tawa when there were only two schools and Linden had 900 pupils) they have an impressive range of programmes for their children and a high standard of dedicated teachers.
A lower decile number (due to socio-economic levels) can lead to a perception that is completely at variance with the high standards achieved. The school was very appreciative of the visits by Tawa Rotarians with free dictionaries for all pupils.

Your help needed - Red Shield Appeal
It's only a couple of weeks until the Salvation Army's annual Red Shield street appeal, which runs from Monday 28 April to Sunday 4 May. They desperately need help with collectors. If Rotarians from Rotary Club of Tawa can assist this year, we'd love to hear from you.
Just contact your nearest Salvation Army and let them know that you'd like to help this year. Or you can phone 0800 53 00 00 | email pr@nzf.salvationarmy.org.
Raid on Johnsonville Rotary
On Monday 5 May we visit the Johnsonville Club. The cost will be only $20, and those attending will need to make payment at our club night on 29 April. An excellent speaker, Air Marshall Sir Bruce Ferguson, former Chief of NZ Defence Force and Director of Government Communications Security Bureau is invited that night.
Hosts welcome for Rotary Exchange
Gaylene advised that our Club is now looking closely at hosting an Exchange Student from the end of July this year. If you think you may be interested in being a host family please contact Gaylene.
