Tuesday 18 July 2017, Tawa Rotary had an off-site visit to Ninness Funeral Home, Kenepuru Drive.
Thanks to our own member Wade Hall, a Funeral Director for Ninness, for organising this event which was shared with members of the Rotary Club of Johnsonville whose president William Nobelen – he is also a Funeral Director of Affordable Funeral Directors.
The evening started with fellowship over a shared meal and drinks provided by Ninness.
Then seated in the chapel William talked about the role of the Funeral Director as it related to funerals, pre-planning, transfers and coronial work. Ninness also provides the on-call funeral directors for Police calls on half of the Coroner for a large area of the Wellington Region from the Northern Suburbs of Wellington to PekaPeka. William also reminded us to perhaps give some thought to preparing for our own eventual funeral by talking to family members about preferences for the type of funeral or cremation and of favourite music and hymns and accurate details that are required for a death registration.
Wade then took us on a tour ‘down stairs’ where he continued the talk on the role of the funeral director covering aspects of coffins/caskets’ selection and embalming/mortuary practices.
Thanks Ninness for an insightful and interesting evening on a subject which is more often encountered under much more solemn and stressful occasions.
