Hi everyone

It was great to be back in the Bowling Club for our first formal meeting last week.

Joe gave us the details of our planned board for the year as well as overview of his plan which is based around the Rotary themes.  He’s mailed a copy to everyone so if you didn’t receive a copy and would like one, please contact Joe.

Pat also updated us on the IYM candidates he and Gaylene interviewed – 3 great young ladies, 2 of which we’ve agreed to sponsor, rather than the one we would normally do – redirecting funds from unused portions of the Youth budget to cover the 2nd candidate.  We’re now waiting on confirmation from the IYM Committee as to whether they’ve been accepted,

Yesterday 6 of us spent time at Tawa New World, collecting for Mary Potter Hospice.  I understand that some others also gave up their time to collect at other locations such as Coundown.  It was great to see the difference it made in having EftPos available as so many people don’t carry cash anymore.  Judith Gray has donated one for the club which will be really useful for the Bookfair and other events going forward once we get it set up and functioning.

We also received a lovely letter from Pravind Singh who coordinated the Mary Potter collections in this area, thanking us for our time in what turned out to be a very successful collection day – helped i’m sure by the weather turning out lovely and crisp after Friday’s rain hail, thunder storms and tornadoes!

Tonight we have two tables attending the Inner Wheel Quiz Night to raise funds for the Tawa Community Patrol – A number of our members are also attending but on other tables – so there may be some great competition for the prizes.

The Raffle last week was a voucher from the Sprig and Fern.  Won by Malcolm Andrews, I think that’s the 2nd prize  out of 44 he’s won – goes to show you have to be in to win.

Denise provided examples of the book bags that we’re making for the Neo Nate babies.  Elaine Harris who instigated the project gave a brief summary of how and why – which was basically a good way to get parents talking to their babies while they’re in NICU, with many of them not sure how to talk to them and feeling awkward trying to do so.
