Nick, gave the meeting an overview on his thoughts if he was to become the Wellington City Mayor in October 2016.

Nick is a sixth generational Wellingtonian and was educated at Tawa College, before going onto Victoria University. In 2010 he contested the Porirua mayoralty as one of nine candidates and won - he still holds the position of Mayor today. In 2013 he was elected a member of the Capital and Coast District Health Board, a position he enjoys.

Nick thought it was important to get the City's Core Infrastructure strategy correct and set priorities. He then covered Transport and gave good examples of where it needed to urgently improve. Nick spoke on the opportunities to work closer with other stakeholders which includes NZTA. He talked about localism and that many of our communities are connected - he would like to build on this. He admitted that he didn’t have all the great ideas, but he could build a culture where good ideas could happen and hence the city would be better off. He believed a good dose of common sense was required on a lot of the current issues.

He is committed to ensuring the City becomes robust and credible and that all citizens become proud of this great City.

Books for Kenepuru Hospital

Another positive outcome from this year’s Tawa Rotary book fair was replenishing the books in the day rooms and small patient library at Kenepuru Hospital. Richard Herbert, Book Fair project lead, received the following message on behalf of Tawa Rotary:

"Hi Richard,

Many thanks again for dropping those boxes of books off to my place last Saturday. My husband and I took these up to the Library at Kenepuru on Sunday for our library volunteers to sort through. On behalf of the organisation I would like to thank you for your generosity and kindness.  I am sure the books will be well received by patients and visitors to the wards.

Have a great week.

Warm regards, Melissa
