At our 25 October meeting , we had an action-packed meeting starting with an induction and warm welcome to new Rotarian, Heidi Mills.
New Rotarian - Heidi Mills
Paul Drummond introduced Heidi Mills, who was accompanied by her friend Maxine. Heidi's ambition is "service above self". She talked about her passion for youth development and community affairs. Heidi has worked for youth development in Sussex and Kent. At the age of 12, she won the "Town Criers'" award. Heidi has worked for six years with the Ministry for Youth Development. She's passionate about developing youth leadership to have a real say in the future.
Book Fair working bee
Richard Herbert sought help for Saturday 29 October with moving the trestles for Plimmerton Rotary's collection. Next year, 2017, we will be considering venue and timing options.
World Polio Day
World Polio Day for Rotary International is this week. The target is within five years for the world to be free of polio.
Tawa Rotary is hosting "the World's Greatest Meal" fundraiser. Bring friends and family and join thousands of Rotarians to help End Polio.
When: Friday 11 November - 5.30pm for dinner at 6.00pm
How much: $25 per person (BYO wine/beer/soft drinks)
We kindly thank Turmeric Restaurant. Orders taken for butter chicken or korma (rice & roti included). Dinner followed by tea, coffee, slices.
Theme: wear Indian clothing or something purpose. Please bring $/coins for raffles. If you aren't able to attend, donations are welcome. Every $1 dollar is boosted by Bill Gates' Foundation of $2.
Tawa Christmas Parade (Marshalls) : Des O'Sullivan, Director Club Services, noted that the Tawa Christmas Parade on 3 December will require six marshalls to help.
By popular request, Tawa Rotary will have a progressive Christmas dinner on 10 December 2016.
Malcolm Andrews announced that the donation of firewood by Spring into Tawa raffle winner, Faith has been given to the Salvation Army for distribution to several homes as the need arises.
Gaylene shared ideas on membership and club development plans gained from attending a Rotary District event at Masterton:
- more social activities outside Rotary
- invitation cards to come along and listen to good guest speakers
- diversity meetings
- husband/wife combination receive discounted membership
- mentors assigned to new members
- themed nights, such as Polio eradication.
Treasurer, Bruce reminded Rotarians that annual membership subscriptions are due 31 October for early bird rate at $290 pp; otherwise it is $320 per member.
