Tracy Wellington visited Tawa Rotary on 11 July 2017 to provide an update on charity, Kiwi Community Assistance.
Tracy Wellington, co-founded Kiwi Community Assistance (KCA) some 5.5 years ago, provided an inspiring presentation of the management of a charitable organization that has already distributed over 80 tons of foodstuff in the first 6 months of this year. KCA provides more than 200.000 meals each year to schools for breakfasts and to other agencies, also a wide range of clothing and furniture for families - all from donations.
The collection and distribution is organised by 74 volunteers but they are always looking for more help and even two hours a month is welcome.
A major part of the donations come from supermarkets and food suppliers having excess stock or some product getting close to use-by date. So this is a win-win arrangement with KCA getting goods and the stores not having to pay to dispose of them. A chiller truck was purchased in May 2017.
We were reminded that Tawa Rotary had assisted the KCA with purchasing a van some four years ago. Donations in cash are welcome but they do not actively keep a follow-up donation list. Any donations of food, clothing or household goods can be left at the Tawa Community Centre.
KCA can be contacted through email at; firstname.lastname@example.org or Ph. 022 465 2200.
