President Karyn Notes
Update from Karyn:
A number of us attended the 7th Student Leadership awards on a cold and miserable Monday this week  This was the first time Tawa Rotary had joined in with Plimmerton and Porirua Rotary Clubs and we had several Tawa schools represented.
It was a humbling and moving event and something that we will have an ongoing association with and an increasing participation from our local schools.
In lieu of our meeting last week, 8 of us joined Plimmerton Rotary for a movie night and to celebrate the completion of Te Ara Piko, as 21 year project to build the walkway around Pauatahanui, great to see a long term project followed through to completion
Rotary Meeting 17th August 2021
Tuesday 17 August 2021
Our Guest Speaker will be Greg O'Connor MP for Ohariu:
We have asked Greg to address on the following topics:
Financial support of the Mongrel Mob ( Greg, we know your strong views on gangs and fully support those views !!)
He Paupau – there is a lack of understanding of this proposal and deep concern regarding it’s adoption which already appears to have started, before any consultation has commenced.
The Police Ministers’s statement of the 20th July that she sees her role as supporting Maori and Pasifika peoples – from comments I have gathered todate the majority believe that her role is to support the Police.
This will be a great evening to get an update from Greg, we encourage you to bring guests and spread the word that Greg is speaking.

A note from our Interact Club looking for help.
Please contact President Karyn directly if you have any ideas
Kia Ora Louise, hope you are well!
In 5 weeks, the Interact club will be executing a carnival at our school. The aim is to raise money for BeyondWater - an organisation that looks at providing clean drinking water and sanitation facilities for schools in Kenya. We were wondering whether Rotary has any connections with people or companies that would be willing to sponsor us, including Rotary? We are needing donations for 3 prize packages. Students will be paying for tickets and trying their luck at different carnival games. If they are successful, rather than having single prizes we give them an entry into the draw to win one of 3 prize packages.
I look forward to hearing from you,
have a great evening

Liz Sutton and John went and visited June Matthews at her home on Thursday and presented her with a wonderful selection of winter pyjamas donated by Tawa Rotary.  June passes her thanks on to those who donated, this has made lots of children, big and small very happy.
Generation Link programme.

Call for additional volunteers to support a new pilot programme in Tawa.

Over lockdown volunteers from the Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust saw a need for a greater connection between generations and have initiated a project called Generation Link.

Generation Link aims to connect the seniors of our communities with local tamariki in school, during school hours. Hampton Hill School Tawa are excited to be part of our Generation Link Pilot Program.  We are looking for Volunteers who would like to be involved with the project and are able to offer 2 hours of their Wednesday afternoon to take part in facilitated activities with the senior children from Hampton Hill School.
If this is something that you are keen to be part of please email or call or text Ali on 021 665433.

Pride in Work Awards 2021
Pride in Work Awards 2021
Tawa Rotary will soon be inviting nominations for a Pride in Work Award from Tawa employers who have outstanding performers in their employment.
This is the 2nd year that the Awards have been available for nominations in this format. In earlier years the Club held Pride in Workmanship Awards but after a number of years not being held it was reintroduced as Pride in Work Award by Don Rushworth in 2019.
After the Book Fair, the Club will start to promote the Awards with employers and the community. Nominations will close on 20 September and Awards will be presented at a dinner on Tuesday 19th October.
The Committee of Judith Gray and Pat Waite would welcome volunteers to help both distribute information around employers and also in the planning of the Award evening.
cheers Pat
