This week's meeting
We are having a presentation on the Rotary Foundation from our own Martin Garcia, District Foundation chair. The activities of the Foundation are also something to celebrate, through its various programmes we have provided local grants to help the community, we have been able to carry out projects internationally, we have almost eliminated Polio, we have funded Peace Scholars and Academic Scholars, no doubt Martin will be able to add to the list.

President's Piece
We are just finishing Easter weekend, for some 4 days off work for those of Christian heritage it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, for those of the Jewish heritage it began a little earlier with celebrating the feast of the Passover, I am not sure how this was treated in the Muslim faith, in a spirit of better understanding I should find out.
The important thing here is that these events are a celebration, a chance to share with others, an honouring or remembering of the past. Next week end we will be celebrating the anniversary of the chartering of the Rotary Club of Tawa. Much has happened of those 50+ years, and a lot of that is recorded in the book the club produced last year to coincide with 50 years, COVID 19 put paid to those celebrations. (COVID 19 has actually affected a significant number of celebrations over the last year).
District Conference 2021
Tawa Rotary Club was well represented. Highlights:
  •  the recognition of Phil Harland's 50 years in Rotary.
  • No 3 Club in the District for Rotary Foundation donations
Conference Report (adapted from the report in Wellington North Bulletin) follows......
Youth night
A successful Youth Night was held at our last meeting. Over 30 guests joined our members for an evening celebrating Youth events. We heard from RYLA participants and exchange students. Badges were presented to Interact members. Feedback from the teachers and students was very positive - some of the Business students have since found mentors for their business ideas and Interact has registered their interest in participating in our Rotary fundraising events.
