From President Richard As I sit down to write this, we are back in COVID-19 lockdown. Friday night saw the level 2 lockdown for the most of NZ extended until 26 August. Auckland is under level 3 lockdown so some Rotary Clubs will be cancelling their face to face meetings. Under level 2 we can have a physical Rotary meeting because we are not over 100 members, so Tuesday night we have Helen Bichan speaking to us about the upcoming referenda. Her interest is in enabling communities to contribute to decision making, and the processes involved. COVID 19 is an insidious disease that some are not taking seriously, I heard recently that in terms of affects and outcomes it could be considered similar to Polio and everyone takes that seriously, in fact Rotary and partners have worked very hard to eliminate Polio. I do hope that COVID 19 does not hang around as long has Polio has but it will probably take a similar level effort to wipe it out, either vaccinations or isolation. For those of you who have looked at your Rotary Down under page 23 has a rather nice piece about a Polio free world, it is so easy to substitute COVID19 and take the same message. I heard on the news that there is lot of false information being spread around about COVID and some of the measure being taken to contain it. I would hope that as Rotarians that we live by the 4 Way Test and ask before passing COVID-19 stories on we ask at least is it the Truth and is it fair to all concerned. Todays 1pm COVID breifing has said something similar. I am not sure where this is all going to go and what affects it will have on the club, meetings, projects et, but we have made it through a couple of months of lockdowns already, so this is nothing new. Just be kind to one – another. |
