President Karyn Notes
Update from Karyn:
Well here we are again, still in lockdown.  Hopefully everyone is going well, and we’ll be down to level 3 after Tuesday night.
If you’re struggling at all, or need help, please reach out, there are plenty of people willing to respond and help.
I’m sure you’re all missing your regular Rotary Fix, so we’ve had to rethink our plans and will be moving to Zoom meetings for the next 2 weeks at least.
How we proceed after that is obviously dependent on what happen around the country and what the PM and Dr Bloomfield decide.
This week we were to have a special AGM, present the accounts and discuss the results of the survey – however, as at lunchtime today, only 14 of us had responded to the survey, which statistically isn’t really enough to base any decisions on.
So thank for those who have responded, there’s some great feedback coming through. It does sound like a few people haven’t received the original emails, so I resent out a reminder today, about 12.17pm  - If you haven’t done the survey and didn’t get that email, pls check your Junk or Spam folders on your email, and if you haven’t received anytihng, pls let me know and I’ll confirm your email address is loaded correctly and resend it out.
So the schedule is:
Tuesday 31 August:  7pm Zoom meeting –

Join Zoom Meeting
  • Present the accounts
  • And have everyone to speak for a minute or 2 on the book, film or person that has inspired you.
Tuesday 7 September – 7pm Zoom meeting – a link for this will be sent in next week’s bulletin to download Zoom if required, and then join the meeting
The return of the Great Debate.
  • Repeating last year’s successful debate, we’ll argue 2 sides of a yet to be determined topic.
  • Looking for 6 debaters and a chair – pls advise ASAP if you’re keen to participate, so we can get things organised
Tuesday 14 Sept
Hopefully we’ll be back at level 2 so we can have an in person meeting with our scheduled speaker:
Lisa Beighton JP
Manager Porirua Club
Other news:
Several people are looking at ways in which we can help in the community over this time.
Several suggestions have come up – so if you’re able to help, pls advise
  • Food deliveries for the foodbanks
  • ‘child minding’ – essentially this is sitting in your car at the supermarket, parked up next to the car of the ‘client’  with their cell phone number, keeping an eye on kids in the car so mum or dad can do the shopping without having to take kids in to the supermarket and know they’re safe – any issues, and you can call the parent to come deal with it.
Another suggestion is helping the refugees that will be arriving from Afghanistan over the next couple of weeks – a call has gone out  for furniture, household items and pantry staples.  While we can’t deliver anything while we’re still in level 3 or 4, many people are having a cleanout while they’re in lockdown – so if this is you, can you pls put aside anything that could be useful and then we can organise a night to collect and sort it for delivery once we’re in level 2.

Kia Ora Louise, hope you are well!
In 5 weeks, the Interact club will be executing a carnival at our school. The aim is to raise money for BeyondWater - an organisation that looks at providing clean drinking water and sanitation facilities for schools in Kenya. We were wondering whether Rotary has any connections with people or companies that would be willing to sponsor us, including Rotary? We are needing donations for 3 prize packages. Students will be paying for tickets and trying their luck at different carnival games. If they are successful, rather than having single prizes we give them an entry into the draw to win one of 3 prize packages.
I look forward to hearing from you,
have a great evening

Generation Link Programme.

Call for additional volunteers to support a new pilot programme in Tawa.

Over lockdown volunteers from the Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust saw a need for a greater connection between generations and have initiated a project called Generation Link.

Generation Link aims to connect the seniors of our communities with local tamariki in school, during school hours. Hampton Hill School Tawa are excited to be part of our Generation Link Pilot Program.  We are looking for Volunteers who would like to be involved with the project and are able to offer 2 hours of their Wednesday afternoon to take part in facilitated activities with the senior children from Hampton Hill School.
If this is something that you are keen to be part of please email or call or text Ali on 021 665433.

Pride in Work Awards 2021
Pride in Work Awards 2021
Tawa Rotary will soon be inviting nominations for a Pride in Work Award from Tawa employers who have outstanding performers in their employment.
This is the 2nd year that the Awards have been available for nominations in this format. In earlier years the Club held Pride in Workmanship Awards but after a number of years not being held it was reintroduced as Pride in Work Award by Don Rushworth in 2019.
After the Book Fair, the Club will start to promote the Awards with employers and the community. Nominations will close on 20 September and Awards will be presented at a dinner on Tuesday 19th October.
The Committee of Judith Gray and Pat Waite would welcome volunteers to help both distribute information around employers and also in the planning of the Award evening.
cheers Pat
