Plenty of Opportunities to Serve

Ina Hansen, widow of past President of Tawa Rotary, the late Peter Hansen, a charter member of Tawa Rotary. Ina receives a QSM for services to rugby and education. She was a long serving Dean at Tawa College and head of Maths and a long involvement in managing college and club and provincial rugby. She is a stalwart manager with Marist St Pat's in Wellington, centurion teams and is Vice President of the Wellington Rugby Union. Ina is incoming President of Wellington Rotary Inner Wheel.

A great achiever and highly respected through the earlier years of Tawa Rotary and the wives of members. Ina lives on The Terrace in Wellington.

Our thoughts and condolences are also with Brian Frampton and his family on the recent passing away of Brian's older brother Colin.

Hi everyone, happy new year! I hope everyone has had a good break, and enjoyed some downtime.

The board and I are working on the schedule for the coming months, and as it’s firmed up we’ll provide details for everyone, but in the short term, the plans for the next 3 weeks are:

Tuesday Jan 25 6pm

Family BBQ at Grasslees. I have some sausages, sauce etc left over from Stuff the Trailers, but pls bring anything you want to eat, and drink as well as seats, eating utensils etc. Fingers crossed the weather will be favourable, if not, we’ll figure something out and let you know via Whatsapp on the day.

Tuesday 1 Feb 5.45pm

Our first formal meeting of the year – we have District Governor Mark Wheeler joining us to talk about the plans for Rotary and get our feedback, answer any questions we have etc.

Tuesday 8 Feb

Working Bee at Longview 6pm Cost $10

Followed by a BBQ afterwards provided by Longview

Bring working clothes, gardening equipment

We’re still looking for anyone wanting to take on the creation and distribution of the bulletin to give Tony a break. Any volunteers, pls advise

Rotary Club of Tawa, Christmas 2021 Raffle

The Rotary Club of Tawa Christmas 2021 Raffle winners were determined at a meeting held at 10am on Wednesday 15 December 2021.

Under the supervision of retired police office Des O’Sullivan, Rotarian Tony Heyward drew the winning tickets:

First prize Children’s outdoor play kitchen Graeme Barrell

Second prize Children’s bike Caroline Sherbourne

Third prize Children’s outdoor chairs Elizabeth Duncan

The total proceeds of the raffle, amounting to over $4,500, will be donated by the Rotary Club of Tawa to the Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital.

END POLIO NOW – PROJECT UPDATE

Our District-based team for End Polio Now are working hard to raise funds to continue our effort internationally to stamp out Polio throughout the world. With only two countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan) with Wild Polio left, and with only one new case reported in 2021, we are very close to striking it out. And the best news yet is that the new Taliban administration seem to be supporting the programme and vaccinations have resumed in Afghanistan and border crossings with Pakistan.

Our local "Ride The Train for Polio" event has been delayed due to an COVID and the aim is to continue with this event 27th of February.
