Club Forum

The Club Forum on 26 May had the theme, “Change in Rotary”. We experimented with a change in how we run our Club meeting - thanks Peter Lockery and Malcolm Andrews and Committee for arranging this.

Thank you Tony Heyward for leading a discussion on Club Development and facilitating a discussion on ideas on what we could consider changing, what we want to retain and ideas of what we could do differently. Some very interesting ideas came through from the discussion groups for further review.

Points discussed at the Club Forum noted that the Board has approved a project for a combined Tawa Historical Society/Rotary community walk in early 2016. Gary Denton is leading this. Proposals for further consideration included: the Tawa Memorial concept by the Tawa Historical Society; maintenance of the Mexted Reserve that was developed under Rotary in the 1990s; the need to scan fundraising ideas adopted by other Clubs for charitable use; and research on the long-standing arrangement with Life Education Trust re: book fair proceeds.

Working Bee for the Book Fair

Tuesday 2 June is the first of two Rotary meetings dedicated to preparing for the annual Tawa Rotary book fair.  Members are invited to turn up at the Tawa New World premises at normal Rotary meeting time. Fish and chips will be provided – $15 pp.

The Book Fair is being held on 27/28 June and 4/5 July. Each weekend until the book fair, Ken’s team will need a group each Sunday 1pm to continue on with this activity.  Additionally for those who wish to give some time during the working day/night please feel free to drop down.  Thanks to Judith Havill who achieved a lot over several hours this week. The one change this year is that we are trying to sort the fictional books into alphabetical order by author.

The Great Zonta-Rotary Celebrity Debate

“That Pauatahanui Inlet should be filled in and turned into an international airport”.

This fundraising debate will be hosted by Plimmerton Rotary and Mana Zonta on Sunday 14 June at the Pop up Porirua Little Theatre from 3pm-5pm. Star celebrities are involved.

The proceeds from this fundraising event will go towards the construction of an Information Board on Te Ara Piko – The Meandering Path – around the Inlet. For more details, visit the Plimmerton Rotary site.
