Tawa Rotary in Action!
On Tuesday 29 March 2016 we have a special meeting –
- Rotarians are invited to dress in Brazilian theme to welcome Helena Sader Heck, our international Rotary exchange student who will speak at this meeting.
- A conversation on membership, led by Membership Director, Pat Waite - requires preparation with reference to the material that Pat has distributed.
- Raise funds for the Fijian crisis - we’re going to have a best dress prize; run multiple raffle prizes; run a “Dutch” auction with all bids being donated; run an extended sergeant’s session and ask for further donations to support a great cause. Pse bring along a bottle or two to add to the raffle prizes and extra cash to contribute to this worthwhile cause.
New home required for Club’s BBQ
We need to find a new home for the Club’s BBQ. If you have suitable storage space available in a garage, or similar, please contact Peter Lockery. The Club only uses it once or twice a year so it is available for your own use in between!!
Zealandia visit with Johnsonville Rotary
Please see below and keep Monday 18 April free. More details will be coming.
This week we will advise who to RVSP to within our Rotary Club; do not RVSP to Johnsonville.
“Dear Fellow Presidents
It gives me great pleasure to invite you and your clubs (including partners) to the dinner at Zealandia (Rata Café) on 18 April 2016.
This is to reciprocate your hospitality when our club members and partners have visited your clubs. Due to the small size of our venue we have not been able to reciprocate till now.
Zealandia offers us a unique venue and something different. The theme of the evening has been crafted to fit the venue and hopefully make it a memorable evening.
Times: arrive from 5.50 to 6 pm, with 6.15 meal. We should finish around 8 pm. Date: Monday 18 April.
Guest speaker: the new CEO of Zealandia, Paul Atkins. He will speak about Zealandia.
Paul will be introduced by Kerry Prendergast. Kerry was a major contributor and supporter for the Rotary Centennial Project (Discovery area) at Zealandia (she was Wellington’s Mayor at the time). Kerry is also current chair of the Environmental Protection Authority and President of the Rotary Club of Wellington.

I am looking forward to having you all with us on 18 April.
Michael Hodgen (President: Rotary Club of Johnsonville)”
Volunteers please - the Redwood Club
The Redwood Club has drivers, but is aiming to get two-person teams as a safety measure (same logic as the Longview Home wanting a driver and helper for their outings – just in case something happens). The members are all elderly and variously either dementia sufferers or stroke victims, mostly not too safe on their feet.
In effect, each volunteer is “riding shotgun”, helping members on and off the bus or walking them to their doors. Additional volunteers are required for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (Doug Burrus does Wednesdays). Each volunteer does one day per week. The duty goes from 3.30pm till 5.00pm and is not onerous. Club Members come from the Tawa, Porirua, Johnsonville and Newlands areas.
If you are available to help, please call Wendy on 232 5521.
