Thanks to those who came along to the Tawa Rotary and Business Group Breakfast event on Wednesday 3 April 2019. It was well attended by a variety of Rotarians, business people and local politicians. Dame Kerry Prendergast spoke about the role of Tourism NZ and the evolution of the Pure NZ brand that has been occurring over recent years. We will be familiar with the photos of beautiful mountain scenery that depict NZ landscape. But there was becoming the perception that these backblock landscapes were not accessible by the average traveller, and it is easy for many other countries to also market their similar landscapes. So the trend now is to market features which are unique to NZ and harder to copy, like the Maori people and their culture, the friendly NZ people and their hospitality. There is also a growing view within NZ that there are already too many visitors, so Tourism NZ specifically markets NZ to the higher spend tourists who also may travel at off peak seasons. And they also deliver a message that tourism is good for New Zealand. Tourism NZ also promotes the visitor driving campaign. Their latest video advertisement campaign features the Tiaki promise - help us take care of our place.
